Brian Madsen " Matu"

Brian is a local indigenous artist and paints under his tribal name of “Matu”. Born in Port Douglas, he traveled around Australia and experienced the Australian lifestyle, from the solitude of native bush land to the hustle and bustle of city life after living for a time in Sydney and Perth.

Over the years his work has gained ever increasing and popular acclaim have been on show at the Cairns Tafe college, Cairns Regional Gallery as well as the Sydney International airport.

True to his traditional origins, Matu prefers to use bush materials:- wood, ochre, sand ochre, clay, charcoal, petrified timber, dirt of different colour and texture, amber from trees and grass.
