Eva Wanganeen

Eva Wanganeen was born in 1952 and is a descendent of the Arrente and Kokatha people. Being an Australian Aboriginal artist has led me on a journey of discovery exploring the culture of the Arrente, and kokatha people on my mothers side and the people of the River Murray on my fathers side from where I am descended. I continue to be inspired by what I learn and endeavour to pass on this knowledge through my art.

In this rich ancient cultures spanning over 40000 years many icons and symbols are used and I weave these into my art. I chose to paint on silk because of the natural smooth texture and the rich vibrant colours achieved which are reflected in the Australian landscape.
